Story Hour & Crafts at PMPL

The Story hour program consists of stories, songs, games, fingerplay and crafts. We appreciate if you register for a story hour and let us know you are coming so we can prepare enough crafts. We never turn away anyone from story hour (unless you are very late), but from time to time we do run out of prepared craft materials if very many kids come when we don't expect it. We do require you to register for the Saturday Craft Challenge so we know how much to prepare. We also ask that you be on time for our kids programs as a courtesy to everyone.

Home school kids and families are always welcome!

The Library provides special story hour programs for day care centers. If you are a day care, please call Miss Sue for more information about how we can develop your own program. We do not allow day cares to attend our regularly scheduled story hours.

Keep an eye out for more information for upcoming programs and events!

Every summer between June and August we have our annual Summer Reading Program (SRP). Keep an eye out for postings for programs and special events.

Craft Hour is a time for kids who are reasonably capable with scissors and glue, etc, and is meant to challenge our kids' abilities with their hands and imagination. There are direct links to learning with hand activities in young children. It promotes coordination of the mind to the hand and eye, and also helps with problem solving. Craft Hour is also an enjoyable time when the kids can chat with each other, share techniques and learn from making. Younger kids will require the presence of a parent or guardian to help. There is no story read during Craft Time - just one hour of pure creativity! Recently we've made air dry clay hearts, bracelets, and watercolor paintings....What will you do?

Policies for Story Hour

1. Our goal for story hour programs is for children to have a good time and develop early literacy skills. With your help, we can develop and nurture your child's love of books and interest in the library.

2. Story hour is a time for adults and children to participate in planned activities. If you want to chat with a friend or read a magazine, please do so outstide the story hour room. We don't want our kids to be distracted while they are listening and learning.

3. If you child is ready to sit and listen without your help in the story room, you can sit in the library away from your child. But we appreciate that you remain in the library. Parents and guardians should always stay in the story room with kids younger than 8 years.

4. Please don't be late! It distracts young kids in the room. We close the doors promptly when story hour begins. Avoid disappointment - be on time!

With your help, we can make story time a wonderful regular event in your child's life. Please ask us if you have any questions.
